The data held in the GP medical records of patients is used every day to support health and care planning and research in England, helping to find better treatments and improve patient outcomes for everyone. NHS Digital has developed a new way to collect this data, called the General Practice Data for Planning and Research data collection.
Type 1 is practice based sharing of medical records to organisations for research planning purposes. Opting out from this will prevent information being shared outside a GP practice for purposes other than direct care.
For more information, please visit GPDfPR.
This collection will start on 1st September 2021 so if you do not want your data to be shared with NHS Digital please register your Type 1 Opt-out with your GP practice by the end of August 2021 (Please note that the previous deadline was on 23rd June 2021).
Opt out form:
You can email your opt-out form to us at thenew.medicalcentre@nhs.net or post it to us.
The national data opt-out (Type 2) is a service used by the NHS Digital that allows patients to opt out of their confidential patient information being used for research and planning.
NHS Digital will not collect patients’ names or addresses directly. Any other data that could directly identify patients (such as NHS Number, date of birth, full postcode) is replaced with unique codes which are produced by de-identification software before the data is shared with NHS Digital (a process known as pseudonymisation).
To opt out from the national data extraction, please update your preferences via the link NHS Manage your Choice or call on 0300 303 5678- Monday to Friday (9am to 5pm) excluding bank holidays. This is only for the patients at the age of 13 years old or over. Those patients who are under the age of 13 years old and wishes to opt out needs to fill up Under 13 Opt out form and email it to the NHS Digital.
